Back in Action After Representative Break as Finals Race Heats Up

After two weeks off for representative football in the Kinlough Cup and SA State Country Championships, Great Flinders Football League returns this weekend with Round 10 — and with just five rounds remaining, the pressure is rising for teams with finals on their minds.

A huge congratulations to all players, coaches, trainers, and volunteers who represented Great Flinders during the break. The league continues to punch above its weight in both junior and senior representative footy, showcasing not just talent, but the depth and culture that defines our region.

Now, the focus returns to club footy, and this week’s matchups offer plenty of intrigue — with an undefeated side on the road, a top-four showdown on the coast, and a golden opportunity for two clubs to climb off the bottom.

Cummins Ramblers (5th) vs United Yeelanna (1st) at Cummins

Ramblers return from the break with a mighty challenge in front of them — taking on the undefeated United Yeelanna at home. The Eagles have been untouchable in 2025, sitting 7–0 with the best attack and defence in the competition. They’ve dismantled nearly every opponent with their trademark system: relentless pressure, sharp ball movement, and a well-balanced lineup across every line.

For Ramblers, however, this looms as a genuine opportunity. They’ve shown steady improvement over the past month and sit just outside the four with finals well within reach. Back on home soil, they’ll be hoping to catch Yeelanna slightly off rhythm after the break and produce their most complete four-quarter effort of the season.

To do that, the Magpies will need to match Yeelanna at the coalface, take bold risks with their ball use, and capitalise on every forward entry. They’ve shown glimpses of their best footy — now it’s about sustaining it against the best side in the comp. If they can apply pressure early and make it a physical contest, this could be closer than expected.

Cummins Ramblers

Out: Will Turner, Kade Wait, Cody Modra

United Yeelanna

Jaxon Norton, Brayden Martin, Jack Crettenden, Jason Ridley, Brodie Cash, Fletcher Chatfield, Archer Haylock, Daniel Borchardt - debut

Out

Michael Crettenden, Casey Carr, Xavier Watson, Aaron Watson, Gaeten Gerber, Liam Gerber, Dane Habner, Tom Davis

Elliston Districts (4th) vs Tumby Bay (3rd) at Elliston

This shapes as the most evenly matched clash of the round, with both sides locked inside the top four and eyeing off the double chance. Tumby Bay sit a game clear in third, while Elliston are just behind in fourth — but the Roosters have proven tough to beat at home and will back themselves on their home deck.

Elliston’s strength lies in their high-speed brand of footy when their runners get off the chain. They’ll look to exploit open space, especially across the wings of the Elliston Oval. With a midfield mix of experience and youthful energy, they’ll be looking to win the contest and deliver clean ball to their forwards.

Tumby Bay, meanwhile, have been one of the most consistent sides all year. The double break came at the right time, allowing them to reset after managing a number of injury concerns. With depth across all lines and multiple match-winners, they’re capable of breaking games open quickly. This one could come down to who controls the middle — and who takes their chances when momentum swings.

Expect a finals-like edge to this one, with both teams eager to make a statement.

Eyre United (7th) vs Cummins Kapinnie (6th) at Ungarra

The Saints and Cougars meet at Ungarra in a match that could shape the bottom half of the ladder. Eyre United are still chasing their first win of 2025 but have shown signs of progress — particularly at home, where their young list looks more settled.

Cummins Kapinnie sit sixth, but they’ve been competitive in most games and know a strong run home could still keep them in the finals conversation. A big win here is non-negotiable if they want to keep that dream alive.

The Cougars will aim to start fast and use their physicality to control the contest early, while Eyre United will focus on applying pressure, staying structured, and taking full advantage of any forward entries. If the Saints can stay within striking distance, they’re a real chance to spring an upset.

Eyre United

Ins: Robert Beenham, Nathan Peters

Outs: Brody Stratford, Jonah Fatchen, Kyle Butler

Cummins Kapinnie

With just five rounds to go, the run to finals is officially on. For some clubs, it’s about consolidating their spot in the four — for others, it’s about survival. After the break, expect fresh legs, renewed energy, and maybe even a surprise or two. See you at the footy!
