The Great Flinders Football League is ready for another hard-fought season in 2025, and if the off-season recruiting is anything to go by, we’re in for a beauty. With a mix of returning stars, fresh faces, and coaching changes, every club has a story—and something to prove.

Let’s take a look at how each side is shaping up ahead of Round 1.

Cummins Kapinnie Cougars

Key Inclusions:

  • Majoor Ackland (Lock)

  • Archer Appleton (Boston)

  • Tate Bieniasz (Marble Range)

  • Harry Ford (Ports)

  • Tom Haarsma (Cummins Ramblers)

  • Levi Konitza (Olympic Dam)

  • Matthew Phelps (Walkerville)

  • Boyd West (Lock) – New Playing Coach

The Cougars have made a massive statement this off-season. With Boyd West at the helm, Cummins Kapinnie has gone all-in with a strong recruiting haul. The additions provide a healthy blend of local grit and external flair. If they gel early, the Cougars could leap from outsiders to contenders in a hurry.

Prediction: Top 4 finish likely

Cummins Ramblers Magpies

Key Inclusions:

  • Saben Batterbury (Wayback)

  • Dylan Boxer (Wayback)

  • Bailey Doolan (Wayback)

  • Rehn Freebairn (Glenunga)

  • Jeremy Joss (Mallee Park)

  • Aidan Kakoschke (Central Yorke)

  • William Turner (Eyre United)

  • Oscar White (Cowell)

Ramblers have reloaded with intent. The injection of pace and skill from Wayback gives them a dangerous forward half. The local rivalry with Cummins Kapinnie takes on even more spice with both in finals contention. Expect fireworks when these two clash.

Prediction: Strong finals contender – watch their rise.

Elliston Districts Roosters

Key Inclusions:

  • Riley Carter (Wallaroo)

  • Logan Elliott (Central Eyre United)

  • Mitchell Gum (Tweed Coast AFC)

  • Boyd McCurry (Kimba Districts)

  • Jack Ramage (Sacred Heart OC)

  • Mitchell Wendland (Hornridge)

The Roosters have had a significant off-season, building both depth and experience. The challenge will be cohesion early in the season, but the quality is there. McCurry, Ramage, Carter and Gum are all potential game-breakers, and the Roosters could climb fast.

Prediction: Middle of the pack with finals upside.

Eyre United Saints

Key Inclusions:

  • Raymond Boehm (United Yeelanna)

  • Sean Nosworthy (Cowell)

After a tough 2024, the Saints haven’t gone big in recruiting but have added valuable leadership and experience. Boehm brings pedigree from United Yeelanna and should have an influence. It’s a year of continued growth with an eye on long-term success.

Prediction: More competitive in 2025 – still developing.

Lock Roos

Key Inclusions:

  • Fletcher Beard (Marble Range)

  • Billy Byass (Marble Range)

  • Jed Durdin (Angaston)

  • Tynan Keeley (Marble Range)

Despite losing key personnel, including Boyd West and Majoor Ackland, Lock still looks solid. The Marble Range trio bring toughness and versatility, while Durdin adds height and marking power. The Roos were minor premiers last season with a misfire on Grand Final day, but they’ve added to their core to be dangerous.

Prediction: Premiership contender if they can build on their 2024 discipline.

Tumby Bay Blues

Key Inclusions:

  • Nick Bates (Eyre United)

  • Mackenzie Best (Balaklava)

  • Joey Lienert (Kimba Districts)

  • Waylon Miller (Lincoln South)

  • Archer Trezise (Wayback)

The Blues have been busy—adding serious talent across every line. Lienert and Miller are explosive types who can turn a game in minutes. After falling short last year, Tumby Bay is clearly on a mission to be a premiership contender in 2025.

Prediction: Lock them in for finals – Premiership smoky.

United Yeelanna Eagles

Key Inclusions:

  • Tom Davis (Marble Range)

  • Liam Gerber (Yankalilla)

  • Ben Glover (Port – SGFL)

The reigning premiers haven’t sat still, topping up with quality from strong leagues. Davis and Glover add flexibility, and Gerber is one to watch. As always, their strength lies in system and structure. Until someone knocks them off, they remain the team to beat.

Prediction: Still the benchmark – grand final bound again?

Season Forecast
  • Premiers: Lock

  • Runners-Up: United Yeelanna

  • Big Improvers: Cummins Kapinnie

  • Dark Horse: Elliston Districts

  • Best Recruit: Waylon Miller (Tumby Bay)

  • Coach to Watch: Boyd West (Cummins Kapinnie)

  • Game to Watch: Cummins Kapinnie vs Cummins Ramblers – local rivalry, new faces, high stakes.

From Tumby Bay to Elliston, Lock to Cummins, the 2025 Great Flinders Football League season has all the makings of a classic. Big recruits, fierce rivalries, and the beauty of Eyre Peninsula country footy – strap in for a brilliant year ahead.
